Mayor’s Message

Welcome to the Nackawic web site, “Gateway to Mactaquac Country”.

Nackawic is located on the banks of the beautiful Saint John River, just 35 minutes drive west of the capital city of the Province of New Brunswick.

The Saint John River has often been called the Rhine of North America and is one of the reasons the Province of New Brunswick is referred to as “the Picture Province”. Nackawic owes its existence to the development of the Mactaquac hydro dam. As a result of this hydro project a 65 km long lake was formed and Nackawic is near its midway point.

Nackawic is the Gateway to Mactaquac Country, which will introduce you to the warm and friendly people who make this part of Canada their home. Much of Canada’s history has been recorded here with the Maliseet, French Explorers and Trappers and the United Empire Loyalists all sharing their heritage.

Here you can experience the wonders of all four seasons to their fullest. Warm lazy summers, brilliant colours of autumn, plenty of snow for your winter enjoyment. The sweet taste of maple syrup is a hint of what spring and Nackawic has to offer. The area offers ample opportunities for outdoor and nature activities. Explore the countryside on foot, skies, snowmobile, horseback and boat. Enjoy curling, ice hockey, bowling, golf, camping, boating, fishing and exploring the many hiking and leisure walking trails.

Nackawic’s industrial community is primarily forestry resource related.  Riverbend Log Homes supplies pre-cut log homes which are also shipped to international markets.

It is difficult to describe in one short page what Nackawic-Millville Rural Community is all about and what we have to offer. Please read the other pages on this web site and, if you want more information, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 575-2241.
